Obituary

William J. "Bill" Bodenrader, 78, of Lawrence, MA passed away on Tuesday evening, May 5 th , 2020 at his home in Lawrence, MA surrounded by his loving family.

Bill was born on September 19, 1941 in Lawrence, MA to Rita (Lanctot) and William J. Bodenrader.  He was educated in the Methuen school system and graduated from Tenney High School.  He served in the Army Reserves as a Medic.

Throughout his career, Bill worked in the food industry.  Bill was a manager at Friendly's.  He later worked in sales and marketing for United Food Company and Hallsmith Sysco, from where he retired.  After retirement, he worked part time at Dewhirst Funeral Homes.

Bill married the love of his life Claire (Mignault) on May 9 th 1964, with whom he shared two daughters.  Bill loved life and was involved in several groups and activities.  He developed a passion for golf while working as a caddy as a youth, which led him to become a member of the Vagabond Golf League.  He was also a member of two bowling leagues: Post Office Bowling League and Tower Hill Bowling League.  On vacations to Cape Cod, Bill enjoyed fishing.  He was a longtime fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

Bill had a strong faith in God and was a parishioner at St. Matthew's Parish and later a member of Saint Basil Cursillo Community.   He invited many of his friends to experience a Cursillo weekend and was part of a Cursillo Reunion Group in Salem, NH.  For thirty-two years, Bill found fulfillment in the fellowship of the AA community.  During these years, he was a mentor and sponsor to many through his guidance, wisdom and his easy-going manner.

Bill loved spending time with his family at cookouts, gatherings and especially holidays.  He enjoyed yearly family vacations as well.  Throughout the years, he especially loved spending time, whether it be going out to breakfast or lunch, to the movies, on vacations and road trips with his loving grandson, Matthew.   Bill was a proud "Pap" to Matthew and loved to talk about his achievements in school and theater.

Bill was predeceased by his sister, Teresa Soucy. After Bill's death he lost his son in law Robert J. Scharn, Jr., and his daughter Karen's dear friend and companion, James Palermo.


Bill is survived by his loving wife Claire (Mignault) Bodenrader of Lawrence, his daughters Coleen (Bodenrader) Scharn and her husband Robert J. Scharn Jr. of Haverhill, and Karen Bodenrader and her dear friend and companion, James Palermo, of Lawrence, as well as his only grandchild, Matthew Scharn.  In addition, Bill is survived by his sister, Patricia Kennedy and her husband, John, of Salem, NH, his  brother-in-law William Soucy of Methuen, and his sister-in-law Janet Phair and her husband, Alan, of Atkinson, NH. Several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews and cousins.  In addition, Bill is also survived by some extremely close friends.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Sat. Sept. 19 th at 10 AM at St. Matthew's Parish, 2 Searles Rd, Windham, NH.
