William J. "Bill" Hoegen, Sr., age 95, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2025, in Daytona, Florida. Born on November 10, 1929, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, he was the son of Charles A. Hoegen and Margaret (Logan) Hoegen. Bill lived a long and fulfilling life marked by devotion to family, service to country, and a tireless work ethic.

Raised during the Great Depression, alongside his four siblings, Bill developed a strong sense of responsibility early in life. At the age of 16, he left school to help support his family financially—a decision that reflected both his selflessness and resilience. Despite these early challenges, he remained committed to his family, country and education. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and trained at Fort Dix in New Jersey. While serving in the U.S. Army he earned his GED. After his honorable service in the Adjutant General Branch, he continued his studies with the help of the G.I. Bill.

Bill went on to attend Merrimack College and graduated from McIntosh Business School with a degree in cost accounting. His dedication to learning and personal growth laid the foundation for a successful career spanning nearly four decades at Raytheon in Andover, MA. There, he worked as a material analyst and production control supervisor.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill was known for his deep love of family and community. He married his teenage sweetheart and together they shared an extraordinary 73-year marriage filled with love and mutual respect. As the patriarch of his family, Bill's presence was a source of strength and warmth across generations.

A skilled handyman with an eye for detail, Bill built two homes with his own hands—testaments to both his craftsmanship and determination. He had a passion for sports that began in his youth; he played amateur baseball and competitive fast pitch softball throughout Greater Lawrence, MA. Later in life, he channeled this enthusiasm into coaching Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball teams in Salem, New Hampshire. Watching the grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow—brought him and Lorey immense pride and joy.

Bill also cherished time spent traveling with family, especially their many trips to Aruba where memories were made that will be treasured forever.  In his later years, he most enjoyed sitting out on the lanai at his home in Estero, FL.  A devoted fan of all Boston and New England sports teams, he rarely missed a game and frequently attended the Red Sox spring training in Fort Myers.

Those who knew Bill remember him as generous, kind-hearted, hardworking, and strong—a man shaped by hardship but defined by love and perseverance.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Lorraine (Novak) Hoegen; his son, William J. Hoegen, Jr. and his siblings, Charles, James, Catherine (Toavaga), and George Hoegen.

He is survived by his daughter, Linda Wallace and husband, Thomas; daughter-in-law, Ethel Hoegen; grandchildren, Thomas Wallace Jr., Melissa Egan and her husband Justin, Justin Wallace and his wife Jackie, Matthew Hoegen and his wife Kaitlyn; great-grandchildren, Lilyana and Ariella Egan, Teagan, Cameron and Logan Wallace and William, Shaelyn and Austen Hoegen and many nieces and nephews.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him and serve as an enduring reminder of a life well lived. A joint memorial service to honor the life and love Lorey and Bill shared will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at Carrier Funeral Home 38 Range Rd, Windham, NH. A Period of Visitation will take place from 10am to 11:30am, with a Funeral Service immediately following at 11:30am at the funeral home.
