Virgil "Dave" Weaver of Windham, N.H. passed away on Good Friday March 29, 2024 in the Emergency Room at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, in Nashua. He was born on New Year's Eve, December 31, 1929 in Corvallis, Oregon, the only son and youngest child of Orville and Cressy Weaver. He had two older sisters Elaine and Donna. (all are deceased)
Dave joined the Navy early and retired after 22 1/2 years. He married in 1955 and had 3 children. Dave lived in Guam and at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba while Castro was taking over. He was an expert marksman in the Navy, receiving many medals. He remarried in Windham in 1972. He attended what is now Southern New Hampshire University and worked at Data Intelligence Systems. Dave is also remembered as a great storyteller. He wrote 4 novels using his travels to Africa and elsewhere and his experiences in life as a backdrop.
Dave loved Golf and enjoyed the camraderie at Pine Valley Golf Links for 41 years, where he became the oldest member. He was a great cook and loved bringing his "signature" dishes of beef stew and potato salad to Pine Valley. He never stopped following and cheering for the Patriots and the Red Sox and recently became fascinated watching Pickleball games on TV.
He is survived by his wife Mary, who writes the Sky News column in the Windham Independent newspaper and his children: David and wife Karen of Etna, Ohio, Alan and wife Emily of Hickman, Tennessee, and Darlene (DiDi) and husband Eric Moses of Plantation, Florida. He has 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.
Dave's many friends, who will miss his dry sense of humor are invited to a Visitation beginning with military honors on Sunday, April 7th from 9 - 11 am at Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd., Windham, N.H.
