Obituary

Vincent "Duke" Anthony Ferrero, Sr, of Salem NH, passed away on May 13th, 2026, at Parkland Medical Center.

Duke was born April 1st, 1939, in east Boston and grew up in Medford MA. Duke ran "Bobbies Diner" in Medford MA, where he served up laughs and eggs for nearly 40 years before becoming "Vinny the Janitor" in The Salem NH school system. There he served up laughter and love for all his "helpers" teachers and staff members for over 20 years. After retirement, Vinny tried his hand at Retail where he spent many years once again spreading laughs and his idea of customer service.

On May 29th, 1965, it was a cool and rainy day when Duke married his "Dutchess" Barbara Schiavone in Salem NH. The couple would be married 61 years this month.

Duke was famous for wearing his beloved New England sports team merchandise, most notedly all at the same time. He was often seen at Market Basket in Salem wearing a Sox baseball cap, New England Patriots shirt, and a Bruins pair of bottoms. He was a Monday morning quarter back and a fair-weather fan but lived for the New England teams in his own way. He did have the habit of shutting off a Football game because he was mad, only to have the beloved team win, and him missing it. His other big favorite were scratch tickets and casinos. As much as he loved them, they didn't love him back, so he was only given a $100 allowance when he and the Dutchess would go off to Foxwoods, and most recently The Nash.

The biggest love Duke had was for his family and friends, who will deeply miss him beyond words. His presence was as big as him, and he has left us with a large empty space. We are grateful for the wonderful memories and some crazy stories, that may have happened years ago, that still make us laugh today.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Jean Ferrero; his daughter, Ann Ferrero-McNeil and Son in Law Dan McNeil of North Attleboro, MA; son, Vincent Ferrero, Jr of Salem,NH; his brother, Joseph Ferrero and sister-in-law, Joanne Ferrero; His niece and nephews, Felicia Massarelli , Mark Massarelli , Kim Carlson and husband Randy, Raechel Ferrero, Gregory wife Bridget and baby Joey, Kiley and husband Max; extended family; and important to Duke were his Grand Dogs, Chewy and Mia and Cat Boo.

In addition to his Mother Anna "Bobbie" (Rauseo) Warner , Duke was predeceased by his sister Jeanette Massarelli.
In honor of Duke/Vinny being such a fan of all things New England sports, we kindly request visitors ditch the suit and sport their favorite NEW ENGLAND team merch!
