On Wednesday, October 16, 2024, Veronica Flynn Hewitt, AKA Roni or OMA, peacefully departed on her next adventure at her home in Windham, New Hampshire.

Born on August 13, 1926, to Thomas and Veronica (nee Hooker) Flynn in East Orange, New Jersey, Roni was the oldest of four children.  She lived in New Jersey until she traveled to Germany after World War II to study the language and culture.  There, she met the love of her life, Walter J.D. Hewitt, Lieutenant Colonel, US Army (Retired), and they married in Frankfurt, Germany on January 27, 1951.  They were stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky before retiring to Cold Spring Farm in Windham in 1959.

Over the years, Roni was actively involved in many civic organizations in Windham.  She enjoyed planning and hosting events of all kinds, especially if they involved martinis or if they were held at Searles Castle or both.  A devout Catholic, she spent many years providing spiritual support for those in hospice care and maintained an active prayer group until her death.  She also enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading, keeping up on all the latest Apple products, and "living my dream."

Roni is predeceased by her parents, her husband of 64 years, and her brother-in-law, Dr. William O'Connor.  She is survived by her sister, Loretta Flynn O'Connor; her two brothers Thomas (Faralie) Flynn and John (Mae) Flynn; her son, Douglas Hewitt, Colonel, US Army (Retired) and his partner, Carol Griffin; her granddaughters, Sarah Hewitt Chipley (James), and Jennifer Rogers Gauthier (Steve); her great-grandson, Braydon Douglas Gauthier; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

The Hewitt Family would like to extend our deepest gratitude and condolences to Roni's "Angels", a circle of friends who supported her after Walter's passing and allowed her to live independently in her home of almost 60 years.  Roni spoke often and with great affection of her "Angels" and how they made her life easier.

A Celebration of Life and Mercy Meal will be held at Saint Matthews Church, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087 on 19 November 2024 at 1000 am.   A private burial will be held at a later date.  In lieu of gifts or flowers, please consider donating to the Wounded Warrior Project; the Sonshine Soup Kitchen in Derry, NH or a charity of your choice.
