Obituary

Sister Dorothy (formerly Sister M. Borromeo) Lord, 100, and a Sister of Mercy for 82 years, died on March 23, 2024 during a loving vigilance at the Warde Senior Living Center, in Windham, New Hampshire. A native of Littleton, New Hampshire, she was one of five children of the late Jesse and Mary (Drapeau) Lord.

Sister Dorothy held a B.A. degree in history and education and a M.A. degree in history from Mount St. Mary College in Hooksett, New Hampshire. Her ministry as a Sister of Mercy was mostly in education in elementary schools in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. For 43 years Sister Dorothy taught primary grades in New Hampshire at Sacred Heart School in Lebanon, at Immaculate Conception in Penacook, and at St. John in Concord.  She also served as a principal and teacher at St. Rose of Lima in Littleton and as principal at St. Patrick in Pelham. In Massachusetts, Sister taught at St. Ann School in Gloucester.  In some of her assignments, she sang in the parish choirs.

After 43 years of teaching in schools, Sister Dorothy resigned due to illness and then went on to welcome new opportunities in home childcare ministry and 14 years volunteering at the VNA Childcare Center in Manchester.

In I997, Governor Jeanne Shaheen awarded a certificate of appreciation to Sister Dorothy Lord that reads: "In recognition and appreciation of your generous contributions of time, talent, and energies to the VNA Child Care Center. The cuddles and hugs, and time rocking babies, has provided much needed love and nurturing to many infants in need. Your generosity has helped to make our community and New Hampshire a better place to live."

Sister Dorothy, a kind, gentle, loving, prayerful, generous woman, brought all these gifts to her 100 years of life in ministries as a Sister of Mercy.  She thoroughly enjoyed life and always looked forward to outings, art classes and visiting with family and friends.

Sister Dorothy was predeceased by her brother Roger and three sisters Gloria, Theresa and Arlene.  Sister Dorothy is survived by the members of her Mercy Community and several nieces and nephews.
