Salem, NH – Ruth L. (McLaughlin) Strassel, 89, passed away on August 4, 2024 at High Pointe House with her family by her side. She was born February 23, 1935 in Boston, MA  to the late Arthur C. and Audrey B. (Clarke) McLaughlin. She was an accomplished horse rider at an early age, growing up in Hanson, MA.  Ruth graduated from Whitman High in 1952. After graduation she worked in Boston as a stenographer for Stone and Webster Engineering. Taking the train to Boston every day is how she met her husband, Allen, of 69 years. Ruth and Allen lived in Andover, MA for almost 60 years where they raised their three children before retiring to New Hampshire. Ruth also worked for the IRS and managed the offices of two different billing firms. An empty nest turned her towards childcare, which evolved into caring for her grandchildren. Ruth was a good cook and loved to have the family at their home to celebrate all the holidays. She enjoyed being with her family, often vacationing on New Hampshire and Maine lakes.
Ruth is survived by her husband Allen. Her three children, Cathyann Fulton and her husband Bill of Orlando, FL, Allen Jr. and his wife Robyn of Salem, NH, and Mark and his wife Katherine of Chesterfield, VA. She also has seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, one niece and nephew, and a sister-in-law Judy McLaughlin of Plymouth, MA. She was pre-deceased by her brother Arthur McLaughlin.
Ruth was an avid reader, computer game player, and loved crossword puzzles. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In honoring Ruth's wishes, there will be no funeral service.
