Obituary

After living with dementia for years, Ron at age 88, silently slipped his moorings, peacefully furled his sail and voyaged to greet the friendly barks, who had sailed before-O'er the Unknown Sea to the Unseen Shore.

Ron was born in Stag Harbour, Fogo Island, Newfoundland Canada, October 21, 1935. He was the first child born to the late Horatius and Hilda (Hicks) Coish. Ron came to the United States at age eleven along with his parents and four younger siblings. As a youth, he was trained as a meat cutter and worked at the profession while attending Mass Radio School. He served in the US Army Reserves and was on active duty during the Cuba Missile Crisis and the Berlin Wall Issue. He began working in the electronics industry at Transitron, later at ITT Semiconductors, Unitrode Corporation and NCI Semiconductors mostly involved in Quality Assurance.

In 1969, Ron became self-employed, first as an electrician and then as a builder of custom homes in the Windham area. He held both his NH Master Electrician License (#60) and his NH Master Plumbing License (#5044). Upon his retirement, Ron received from the State of New Hampshire, a certificate of recognition for his 40 years as a licensed electrician. Ron served on the Windham Planning Board, Windham CIP Committee and was one of two individuals appointed as representatives to the first Regional Planning Commission. Beginning in the 1960's for many years, Ron served as a member of the Windham Volunteer Fire Department.  His legacy will be seen in to the future in the many homes that he lovingly built around Windham.

Coaching his children, grandchildren and other young people was a real joy to Ron. He spent much time at ballfields, ice rinks and gyms.  Ron enjoyed hunting and fishing and conducted hunter safety training for many years. He enjoyed playing golf and spent many Sunday mornings with his brothers and his son at the Windham Country Club. In the more recent years, Ron has enjoyed spending time and joining in with activities at the Windham Senior Center and Silverthorne Adult Daycare.

Ron and his wife Barbara (Zins) Coish were married on November 15, 1958 in Melrose Massachusetts, where they grew up through high school. In 1960, they moved to Windham to the home they built along with Barbara's father, Francis (Dick) Zins. Coming back to Windham, the home of Barbara's father's family had been a goal and Ron and Barbara remained living in that same home to this day.

Ron is survived by his wife Barbara; his daughter Karen Mackey and husband Robert; son Jonathan and his wife Margaret; siblings Hope Jones; Helen Thirkell; Paul Coish and his wife Judith. Ron was predeceased by brothers John, David and Carl. Grandchildren are Ryan Mackey and his wife Molly of Windham; Aaron Mackey and his fiancée Nicole Russo of Florida; Eric Coish and Andrew Coish of Windham. His life was blessed on December 1, 2019 by the arrival of his first great grandchild child, Olivia Ruth Mackey and on June 27, 2022 by the arrival of his first great grandson, Jacob Robert Mackey.  Ron will also be missed and fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
