Ronald “Ron” Joseph Bretton, 84, of Windham, NH, passed away on October 21, 2026, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH, while surrounded by his beloved family.
Ron was born on February 13, 1942, in Lawrence, MA, to the late Jeanne (Ouellette) and Peter Bretton. Ron was raised in Methuen, MA, graduating from Tenney High School in 1961 where he was a talented athlete. He later raised his own family in Methuen before moving to Windham, NH, just ten years ago.
Following his graduation, Ron enlisted with the United States Army Reserves. It was shortly after that time that he also began his long and rewarding twenty-five-year career with the Methuen Fire Department. It was there that he met many of his closest friends, later even becoming known as “Mayor of Methuen” by his brothers on the department.
Ron was humble, laid back, and truly enjoyed helping others. He loved being around family and friends, whether he was playing cribbage at the fire station, getting together with buddies from high school, or traveling with his wife and their mutual friends. Throughout his life he kept busy and active, whether it was playing 45’s, golf, gardening, or landscaping.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Millie Bretton; his sons, Kevin Bretton and his wife Carla of Milford, NH, and Dan Bretton and his partner Cristina Pensato of Newburyport, MA and Montréal, QC; his granddaughter, Lia Bretton; his bonus grandkids, Patrick, Kiernan, and Shea Lordan; as well as his brother, Norman Bretton; his sister, Claire Boisvert; and many cherished members of his extended family.
In addition to his parents, Ron was predeceased by his siblings, Richard Bretton, Gloria DeGaspe, Roger Bretton, and Pauline Freeman.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, October 31st from 10am to 12pm, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
