Robert H.
Sheldon
Oct 16, 1936 — Dec 11, 2025
Salem
Robert H. Sheldon, 89, of Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH with his wife of 67 years, Carole, by his side. He was born on October 16, 1936, to the late Paul B. and Florence (Hollander) Sheldon of Wakefield MA.
Rob graduated with the Wakefield High School Class of 1954. After graduation, Rob served his country as a cryptographer with the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1957, Rob returned to Wakefield and seized an opportunity to become an apprentice plumber. After earning his master's license, he joined Plumber's Union Local #12 where he worked on numerous major commercial and municipal construction projects in the Boston area for over 30 years. Rob then was recruited to be Plumbing Foreman for Lahey Clinic, where he worked (as a "drain surgeon") for 6 years. Upon retirement from Lahey in his early 60's, he joined the Town of Wakefield as Plumbing and Gas Inspector until the age of 77.
During the early family years, Rob's free time was consumed by rehabbing their 1799 home on Salem St., attending the kids' sports events, vacationing at Round Pond and Sebago Lake, and spending time with friends and neighbors. Annual Labor Day neighborhood yard parties were memorable occasions. As the kids grew, Rob developed other hobbies. Starting with digging for old bottles, this hobby developed into a wholesale antique side business with partner Richie Flanders. Sons Dan and Tim were engaged in this activity as well. He started playing tennis with Carole in his early 40's and they enjoyed many doubles sets together with friends. Later in life, he enjoyed occasional travel with Carole to places like Longboat Key, St. Thomas, Switzerland, and Palm Springs (with Carole's cousin Paul Rich and wife Dolly). Bingo at the Ackerman Clubhouse, cribbage, trips to casinos, puzzles, and Patriots, Bruins, and Red Sox games filled his final years. Above all, Rob was a devoted husband and family man. The time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will always be cherished. To see his great-granddaughter Maddie play in a championship high school basketball game and to attend his great grandson Julian's fifth birthday party were recent events that he was especially happy to attend.
Rob is survived by his wife: Carole Ann (Chinchillo) Sheldon, formerly of Wakefield and now residing in Salem, NH; their children: Daniel Sheldon, and his partner Bethany Nolan, of Peabody, MA, Timothy Sheldon, and his wife Elizabeth, of Maine, Kenneth R. Sheldon, and his wife Elena, of Manchester, NH, and Julie S. Moretti, of Arizona; his seven grandchildren; his 5 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, many old friends in Wakefield; and many new friends in New Hampshire. Rob also considered Bill W. a friend.
In addition to his parents, Rob is predeceased by his siblings: Edward J. Sheldon, Anne Sheldon-Palmer, and Clare White; and his son-in-law Peter Moretti.
