Robert George Duerr, 92, of Methuen, MA, passed away on February 2, 2024 at his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He was born in Brooklyn, New York to Adolf and Adelaide (Rudman) Duerr. He was the Beloved husband of the late Catherine (Gorman) Duerr for 65 years.

Having lost both his parents at a young age, Bob enlisted in the Navy as a teenager. He served on the USS Edisto in the northernmost regions of the Arctic during the Korean War. Between missions, the USS Edisto was stationed in Charlestown, MA, where he met his wife, Catherine Gorman. Bob left the Navy to raise a family, and worked as a supervisor at AT&T, formerly Western Electric, in North Andover for 37 years until his retirement.

A man of great faith, he was a communicant of St. Monica's in Methuen, serving on its First Parish Council and was a Past President of the Holy Name Society. He was an active member of St. Helen's in Vero Beach, where he was one of the original Wednesday night apostles.

Bob was an avid reader, a world traveler, up for any adventure, and always opened his door and his heart fully to his extensive family and wide circle of friends.

He is survived by Robert Jr. and his wife Betsy of Hawaii, Richard of Maine, John and his wife Donna of Methuen, son-in-law Ken Schelling of Lanesboro, daughter-in-law Kathy Duerr of Florida, Marlene and her wife Ellen of Haverhill, and Rosemary, aka Zorah, of California. Known affectionately as Pop, Papa, Great Papa or Daddio, he leaves 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his wife Catherine, daughter Kathleen Mary, son Daniel Joseph, granddaughters Kara and Rebekah Duerr, siblings Frances Perpall and Brother Richard Duerr, FSC.

A prayer service will be held at the Strunk Funeral Home in Vero Beach, FL on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at 11:00 am. Calling Hours for Robert will be held in New Hampshire on Sunday, February 18, 2024, from 12:00-3:00 PM, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, February 19, 2024, at 11 AM, at St. Monica's Parish, 212 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA 01844. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Methuen, MA.
