Robert "Bob" Burns McLaughlin, 87, of Salem, NH, passed away on Monday afternoon, May 11th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Bob was born on April 1, 1939, to Velma (McLeod) and Matthew McLaughlin, Jr. He was raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts. As a child, Bob also spent time in Greene, Maine. Following high school, Bob enlisted and served in the United States Marine Corps, where he reached the rank of Lance Corporal.
He married the love of his life, Carmela "Camille" (Lisitano) on April 23, 1967, at St. Clements Church in Medford, MA. The couple made their home and raised their family in Salem, New Hampshire, where they resided for 57 years.
Bob worked for Sears and Roebuck in Boston, MA for many years, but always started his day delivering hundreds of issues of the Boston Globe. Later he was the proud owner and operator of Unlimited Video & Photo in Windham, NH. Bob spent the final years of his career working as a custodian for North Andover Public Schools.
He had a lifelong passion for music, reading and learning, always having a special interest in the philosophy of Ayn Rand. Bob also enjoyed both playing and teaching chess. He took great pride in coaching basketball, starting with his own children's teams and continuing on for many years. Family was always a priority for Bob, who loved being surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and his cherished cat, Cassy.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife, Camille McLaughlin; his children, Robert B. McLaughlin, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Salem, Brian McLaughlin and his wife Laura of Derry, and Karen Gallant and her husband Craig of Bedford; his grandchildren, Matthew McLaughlin, Brooke McLaughlin, Caitlin McLaughlin, Shane McLaughlin, and Rhys Gallant; as well as his sister, Debbie Baker.
In addition to his parents, Bob was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Fahey; and his brother, Matthew McLaughlin III.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, May 17th, from 11am to 1pm, with the Memorial Service immediately following, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. Burial will take place at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery in Salem, NH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center .
