Ballard "Jack" Oram
Aug 3, 1928 — Mar 8, 2023
South Dennis
Richard John Ballard "Jack" Oram, 94, of South Dennis, MA, passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at High Pointe Hospice House peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 3, 1928, to the late Richard B. and Elizabeth (Norrie) Oram, in Boston, MA. Jack earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University and went on to work as a Branch Manager at IBM.
Jack had many joys in life, but his love of golf was the greatest. He enjoyed playing golf, teaching his large family how to play, and even held a single digit handicap. He also played men's softball for over 40 years. Jack genuinely loved all things horses, even working in the stables and training Sulky Horses for harness racing in Boston. Above all, Jack was a true family man. Raising six kids, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the Patriarch of the Oram Family.
Jack is survived by his children: Richard P. Oram, and his wife Wendy, of Newport News, VA, Nancy Fischer, and her husband Mark, of Chesapeake, VA, Jerald Oram, of Milford, NH, William Oram, and his wife Cathy, of Pelham, NH, Daniel Oram, and his wife Terre, of Lexington, MA, and Mary Norris, and her husband Chris, of Westford, MA; his grandchildren: Kathy Thiemicke, Shawn Oram, Jillian Rodriguez, Joseph Alexander Fischer, Brianna Fischer, Michael Oram, Kate Oram, Jack Oram, Alan Oram, Jackie Oram, Maggie Oram, Daniel Mead, Sara Lincoln, and Mellissa Gibbons; his great-grandchildren: Emily, Alex, Elizabeth, Louise, Wilma, Mia, Riley, Marlee, and Phoebe; his niece: Jacqueline Hope, and her husband Ray; his nephew: David Hastings; his daughter in laws: Kim Oram, and Heidi Oram; and his lifelong friends: Arthur Miller, Donna Brown, and Lorna Young.
In addition to his parents, Jack is predeceased by his loving wife: Mary Ellen (Clancy) Oram; and his sister Dorothy Bannon.
The Oram family would like to sincerely thank the staff and nurses of High Pointe Hospice House for their compassion and care during Jack's last days. They would like to especially thank Palliative Nurse Practitioner Kristen and Bridget from the Palliative Care Unit at Lowell General Hospital.
At Jack's request, funeral services will be private. As many of Jack's family served in the military, to honor him, his family suggests that contributions be made to the Navy-Marine Corps relief society ( nmcrs.org) .
