Peter Gioia Jr., 71, of Methuen, MA passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital on Saturday, April 27, 2024, after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Born in Methuen, MA he was the son of the late Peter and Sandra (Santagati) Gioia.
Raised and educated in Lawrence and Methuen, Peter was a graduate of Greater Lawrence Vocational Technical High School in 1971. He worked as a licensed electrician for over 50 years, owned his own transportation company and retired from Sears Holdings Corporation after 18 years of service as a maintenance electrician. Since retiring from Sears, Peter worked part-time for the Barnard School in South Hampton, NH as the facility manager. He was a parishioner of Centerpoint Community Church in Salem, NH since 1973.
Most importantly, Peter was a devoted husband, dad and grandfather. He was most happy spending time with his family. He enjoyed spending time fishing with his children and grandchildren, having family dinners and barbecues, playing cards, watching football, enjoying time by the lake and being the best sleeping pillow for all of his grandchildren. He was known to be the family videographer his whole life, watch old cowboy movies and was a "Trekkie" at heart. He also enjoyed walks on the beach with his wife and golden retrievers and had a passion for driving large boats. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart and will forever be missed by all of us.
Peter leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years Donna Gioia (Peters) of Methuen, MA and his four children, Angela Atkinson and her husband Dana of Haverhill, MA, Peter Gioia III and his wife Mary of Methuen, MA, Michael Gioia and his wife Catherine of Danville, NH and Mark Gioia and his wife Kimberly of Auburn, NH. He was the beloved "Nanu" to his eleven grandchildren, Joshua, April, Alixe, Dean, Adam, Landon, Brayden, Camilla, Benjamin, Tyler and Sophia.
He is also survived by his sister Nancy Forzese and husband Thomas and sister Nina Charpentier and husband Thomas, as well as many sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Though you were taken from us too early, through our tears, let us see the blessings of knowing and loving you.
