Maurice A. "Red" Laroche

Apr 24, 1937 — Oct 16, 2026

Salem, NH

Maurice (Red) Laroche passed away at Salemhaven Nursing & Rehab on Friday, October 16, 2026. A lifelong Salem resident, Maurice was the son of Alcide J. Laroche and Louise A. (Gagne) Laroche.

He was predeceased by his siblings, Neil Laroche, Pauline (Russell) Sawyer, Doris (Philip) Kalil, and most recently Dolores (Frank) Reardon.

Red worked in the roofing and siding industry and was well know in his hometown. In the 1950s and early 1960s, he was a stock car driver often seen at Dover Speedway, Pines Speedway & Hudson Speedway driving the double zero “00” (named Deany's Special). His memories of those days were dear to his heart and he could talk hours about the racing days and his time with Ollie Silva. He enjoyed watching Nascar and was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox.

A resident of Salemhaven Nursing & Rehab for many years, he had a way of getting to know staff and residents. He would roam the halls in his wheelchair at all hours. The staff got to know his personality quickly. If he was in a good mood, he could talk your ear off for hours. If he was having a bad day, it was best if you stayed away. He gained many friends being a resident there. He participated in the many activities Salemhaven offered; Bingo being his favorite.

Red is survived by his two sons, Dean (Judy) Laroche & Dennis Laroche (and partner Patricia Young) and his daughter Denise (Stephen) Meisner as well as 5 grandchildren, Amy (Jeff) Colbert, Brian (Sue) Laroche, Chad (Kim) Laroche, Joshua (Jenn) Meisner, & Kyle Meisner. He is also survived by 4 great grandchildren.

Red's family would like to thank the entire staff at the Salemhaven Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their outstanding care & compassion while he was in their care for many years. Thank you to Harborside Hospice staff, the Salem Fire Department and many others who have cared for him recently and in the past. Salemhaven and Harborside jointly granted Red's wish to go to a casino. In mid September, he went to the Nash Casino with staff from Salemhaven, Harborside and his daughter.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Salemhaven Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Activities Department, 23 Geremonty Dr., Salem, NH 03079.

Red requested that there be no services. Carrier Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 38 Range Rd, Rte 111, Windham NH 03087 is handling the arrangements.
