Maureen “Moe” Elizabeth Genakos, 73, of Barrington, NH, passed away on Monday, June 29th, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Maureen was born on June 26, 1953, to Frances M. (Guilmette) and James “Skippy” R. Danahy. She was raised in Lawrence and Methuen, Massachusetts and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in education from Lowell State College. Moe married the love of her life, John “Jack” Genakos and they raised their family in Barrington, New Hampshire. She began her career as a teacher for Methuen Public Schools, before becoming a math teacher for Dover High School, where she worked until her retirement.

Moe was a Girl Scout and she lived by the motto, “Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.” She loved camping, skiing, dancing and spending time at the beach. Moe was a meticulous planner, a wonderful cook and a talented wood worker. She was an advocate for those in need and generous with her time and energy. Most of all, Moe was a loving and selfless care giver devoted to her family and friends.

Moe is survived by her beloved husband of 51 years, Jack Genakos; her sons, John Genakos and his wife Megan, and Shane Genakos and his significant other Vay Dam; her grandchildren, John Francis “Ranger” Genakos and Reeves Danahy Genakos; her mother Frances; her siblings, Dawn Giarusso and her husband Bill, Fran Lesaffre and her husband Chris, James Danahy and his significant other Robin, and Kyle Danahy and his wife April; her sister-in-law, Faith Danahy; many nieces and nephews, as well as close family friend, George Garabedian.

Maureen was predeceased by her brothers, Shawn and Shane Danahy.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 11th, from 12pm to 3pm, with a service beginning at 3pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087.

Please wear colorful clothing to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the memorial scholarship Moe’s family is creating in her name at Dover High School.
