Martha Staton, 90 and a longtime resident of Windham, NH, passed away peacefully at Salemhaven.  She was surrounded in love by her five children in her final days. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Martha lived a long, full life that was defined by kindness, dedication, and humor.

Martha was born on June 11, 1935, in Geneva, Ohio. The daughter of a Reverend, Martha moved with her family to New Baltimore, Michigan at age 13. She graduated from high school in 1953, and went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1957. She married Don Staton in New Baltimore on December 27, 1956.

Her journey took her across the country—from Dollar Bay, Alpena, and Calumet, Michigan, to Minden, Nevada, Wauseon, Ohio, Mississippi, and finally to Salem and Windham, New Hampshire—where she built lasting friendships and touched countless lives.

Martha worked in many roles throughout her lifetime, each carried out with energy and care. Her most notable role was as a beloved teacher at Windham Cooperative Kindergarten, and then the owner of a day care.  She was a high school Home Economics teacher in both Michigan and Nevada, and a substitute teacher in Salem.  She also worked at Crabtree & Evelyn in Nashua and You're Invited in North Hampton. At First Congregational Church, she served faithfully in many capacities over 50+ years, including as Treasurer.

Her greatest pride and joy was her family. Martha poured herself into raising her five children and was especially proud of seeing each one of them graduate from college—a testament to her perseverance and values. She also went to all her grandchildren's HS graduations. Her legacy lives on in her large and loving family, which includes 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Martha was highly skilled in knitting, sewing, and she loved decorating Ukranian eggs.  All of her kids and grandkids have blankets knitted by her, and hundreds of New Hampshire babies have worn bibs sewn by Martha.  She took part in many community efforts, like knitting wool hats for soldiers overseas.

Martha is survived by her five children and their spouses: Donald and Lexie Staton, Dr. Susan Sullivan, Alison and Mike Watterson, James Staton, and Jennifer and Scott Pellerin. She often reflected with gratitude on her life, giving thanks for her children, who "never gave her problems," and for the blessings of family, faith, and good health. She looked forward with peace to reuniting with her parents and her beloved brother Phillip, who passed tragically at age 11, when Martha was just four years old.

Martha leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory. She lived her life the right way—with love, strength, and unwavering devotion—and her influence will carry on through generations.

Calling hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, on October 11th at Carrier Family Funeral Home at 38 Range Road in Windham.   A service to celebrate Martha's life will immediately follow at 12:00PM, at the same location.
