Lorraine Ermer, 74, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2026, at the High Pointe House after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on April 28, 1952, in Newton, Massachusetts, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Russell and Eleanor Weston. She grew up in Newton and was a graduate of Newton South High School.
In 1971, she made Derry, New Hampshire her home, where she would spend the rest of her life surrounded by family and friends.
Following high school, Lorraine began working at the Palmer family's general store in North Salem. When the business transitioned into Palmer Gas/Ermer Oil (aka Palmer Gas & Oil), she became part owner. Lorraine was known for her warm smile, friendly personality, and dedication to customers. She welcomed visitors at the front desk, managed many of the company's administrative responsibilities, and took great pride in helping others.
After many years in the family business, Lorraine stepped away from the office to devote herself to her greatest passion—her family. She was a loving and dedicated wife and mother who later cherished her role as “Nana”, spending lots of time caring for and supporting her grandchildren as they grew up through the years, creating lasting memories. They meant the world to her.
Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered by all who knew her.
Lorraine loved to travel and enjoyed many memorable vacations with her family. She was active in her community, serving as a Girl Scout Brownie leader and volunteering her time to help others. Lorraine frequently assisted elderly friends and neighbors by providing them meals and offered companionship and support.
She had a special love for York Beach, where she enjoyed taking long walks along the shoreline. Drawn to the beauty and tranquility of the water, she found great joy and peace by the ocean. During the summer months, Lorraine loved swimming in her pool and hosting family and friends for cookouts and gatherings. When children came to swim, she always made sure there were plenty of snacks, drinks, and ice cream to share. Her homemade potato salad was a family favorite and a staple at every gathering.
She is survived by her devoted husband of many years, Charles W. “Bill” Ermer of Derry; her daughter, Joanne L. Ermer of Sandown; her son, Charles D. Ermer of Salem; her brother, Russell Weston of Newton, Massachusetts; her sisters, Paula Perrotti of Beavercreek Oregon, Karen Willis of Brockton, Massachusetts, and Barbara Ahlemier of McKinney, Texas; her granddaughters, Nicole Rothstein and Laura Rothstein, both of Sandown; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents, Russell and Eleanor Weston, and her sister, Linda Hall.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, June 8, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m, with the Funeral Service beginning at 6:00 p.m, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Windham, New Hampshire.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the North Salem United Methodist Church in Salem, New Hampshire.
