Obituary

Joyce DelleChiaie, 89, peacefully passed away on May 17, 2023, at her home in Salem, NH, after loved ones were able to spend time with her during her final days. She was born on April 30, 1934, to the late Forrest Nelson and Geneva (Damon) Nelson Hillidge, in Newport, VT.

Joyce was raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts and graduated from Lawrence High School in 1951. She loved her life in New England, often returning to her roots in Vermont, as well as visiting the Massachusetts and New Hampshire lakes and beaches. Joyce loved spending time with family and naturally made friends anywhere she went. While she was a creature of habit in many ways (with her regular newspaper reading and television selections), Joyce never lost her zest for life. Even in her later years, she kept a spirit of enthusiasm and stayed in tune with her adventurous side. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially when she could boast their accomplishments to her friends.

Despite loss and hardship early in life, Joyce kept an inner optimism and worked through life's adversity with humor, wit, and integrity. She had a talent for lifting the spirits of those around her, invoking smiles and laughter when they were needed most.

Joyce was predeceased by her husbands, William Sullivan and Albert DelleChiaie. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Betty Glaze and Forrestine "Tina" Nelson Driscoll.

Joyce is survived by her children, Forrest Sullivan and companion Alicia, William Sullivan and wife Debbie, Jean Sullivan Hale and husband George, Paul Sullivan, and Betsy DeVeau and fiancé Billy; grandchildren, Raymond, Melanie, Eric, Billy, Bridget, Justin, Joey, Melissa, Stephanie, and Zachary; and great-grandchildren, Ashley, Owen, Audrey, Kyle, Quentin, Angelina, Jude, Nathan, Reynaldo, Nova, Raidin, and Estelle (Stella).

Joyce is also survived by her sisters, Lou Teichman of Corpus Christi, TX, and Bonnie Hobitz of Keene, NH, as well as many nieces and nephews, including her beloved niece, Susan Driscoll.
