Joseph C. Potvin, 92, of Salem, NH, passed away on Thursday morning, February 20, 2025, at Salem Haven Nursing & Rehabilitation.

He was born on June 27, 1932, to Laura Bergeron-Potvin and Joseph Potvin. Joseph was raised in Lawrence, Massachusetts and attended local schools. He spent many years working for Bodie Trucking Company, before working as a Craftsman for Bellevue Cemetery and the Town of Lawrence until his retirement.

Joseph served in the Korean War. At the time of separation from active duty, he was a Staff Sergeant. He received many medals at the time of honorable discharge, including the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Korea Service Badge. After coming home, his service to others included running into a burning house saving the lives of his neighbors.

Joseph had a love for animals and owned many horses and ponies throughout the years. He enjoyed spending his free time sailing, woodworking, fishing, and boating. He was a beloved member of his boating and fishing community at Sebago Lake in Maine. He made his own speedboat, surfboards, and you could find him carving animal-themed wood carvings which delighted the people and probably amused the animals.

He was an active member of the American Legion, Unit 63, Pelham Fish and Game Club, and the Lawrencian Ski Club. He participated in Hands Across America. He could also cut a rug, and showed up all the millennials on the dance floor at his grand-daughter's wedding.

He is survived by his sons, Eric Potvin of Windham, NH, and Mark Potvin and his wife Geralynn of Franklin, NH; his granddaughter, Rebecca King and her husband Aaron of Wilmington, MA; Great grandchildren, Parker and Lexi; his long-time partner, love of his life, Marie Hobbs; former wife, Dolores Harding Potvin; his nieces and nephew, Ellie Shetenhelm, Frank Stoessel, and Laury Stoessel.

In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his daughter, Jody Fall; and his son, Adam Potvin; sister, Irene Stoessel; brother, Leonard Potvin.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
