Joseph P.
Monroe
Dec 29, 1929 — Feb 13, 2025
Salem
Joseph P. Monroe, 95, of Salem, NH, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA, with his beloved daughter by his side. He was born on December 29, 1929, in Cambridge, MA, to the late Frank and Nora (Furtado) Monroe.
Joseph proudly served his country with the United States Air Force in the late 40s and early 50s, receiving many medals and earning himself the rank of Staff Sergeant. He then returned home to pursue his bachelor's degree, later graduating from Boston University. After working for over thirty years with the Zurich Insurance Group, Joseph took a leap of faith and began his own company, the Benchmark Adjustment Bureau of Andover, MA.
Ever the renaissance man, Joseph enjoyed building and fixing whatever possible, especially if it saved him a dollar or two in doing so. He also tended to his garden and was known to take daily walks with his ducks, Hilda and Samantha. Joseph was an animal lover to his core and was always surrounded by a dog or two.
He spent his retirement as a snowbird, enjoying splitting his time between New England and Florida. Joseph then dutifully cared for his beloved wife, Anne (Mancini) Monroe, in the couple's later years. Above all else, he relished any time spent with his daughter.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Sandra "Sam" Monroe of Andover, MA, and his grandson, Barry Aruda and his wife Lauren of New Hampshire.
In addition to his parents, Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Anne Monroe, and their son, Donald Monroe.
The family would like to thank the staff at Greystone Farm in Salem, NH and High Point House in Haverhill, MA for the special care Joseph received in recent years.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New England Equine Rescue, NEER North, 52 Ash Street, West Newbury, MA 01985. Arrangements are in the care of the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. To leave a message of condolence, please visit www.carrierfuneralhome.com
