Obituary

John D. McNally, 57, longtime resident of Windham, NH, passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Parkland Medical Center.

He was born in the Bronx, NY on April 21, 1967, to William and the late Elizabeth (Garbrecht) McNally. John graduated from Pinkerton Academy, class of 1985, where he was on the basketball team and played for coach Carnavale. In 1997 he started his own business and worked as a moving contractor, owning Big Johns Moving and Removing. A lot of people in the Manchester and Windham area would see him driving his large gray pickup truck towing the infamous 26-foot long black trailer with the "Big John's Moving" logo on it. He was known as 'Big John' since he was a tall presence at 6'6". One would say he was larger than life; he could be funny and outrageous, generous and playful, and that is what made him so unique. John will always be remembered for his love of adventure and spread that love on to his daughter Briana, and then many years later to his other daughter Anya. He created fond memories on Lake Massebesic where he lived for many summers. He enjoyed cars, motorcycling, boating, jet skiing, snowmobiling, and was a great chess player. He also loved to travel, as he ventured on many cruises. In 2017, John and Briana drove together cross-country on a very memorable trip that included stops visiting Utah, famous National Parks, Mount Rushmore, Chicago, and New York. In the past 25 years, he made many trips to San Diego to visit his sister Barbara, and made a ton of friends on the west coast.  Everyone who met John liked him and remembered him; some people just have that special magnetic quality that is hard to forget. John's most recent trip was in June of last summer where he toured Switzerland with his father and sister on a trip of a lifetime through the Swiss Alps. We are so grateful to have all of those wonderful memories and photos. His star shined brightly- he lived his life to the fullest and had no regrets.

John is survived by his father Bill McNally of Windham, NH; his daughters Briana Perry and Anya Edwards both of Thornton, NH; his son Nathan Ewing of Henderson, NV; his sisters Barbara McNally of San Diego, CA and Carla McNally McPhee and her husband Bob of Chandler, AZ; his partner Sharon Todt; and his best friends Bob Cousins and Kevin Townsend.
