Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John "Jack" A. Porter, who passed away peacefully at the age of 80. He was born on November 19, 1945, in Woburn, Mass to Norman & Nadia Porter.

Jack was a savvy businessman & the owner of Smith Pump Company. He previously worked for his father as a young man at Porter & Desmond. He found his calling at Wilmington Pump Supply under the watchful eye of his mentor, Norman Smith. Together, Jack and Norman expanded the company into NH, where they opened Smith Pump Company in 1985 and where he worked for 41 years prior to his passing. He left a legacy in the well industry and will be remembered as the inventor of the Porter Shroud.

Jack enjoyed spending time with his family, lots of road trips with Mom out West to various National Parks, and especially his favorite, playing golf in Death Valley. They had so many fun times in the Grand Canyon and Vegas, with his beloved "Pumpkin" (a 1929 Orange Ford Roadster that he showed at numerous car shows) and family weekends every summer for some boating on Lake Winnipesaukee. He loved playing cards and cribbage at the Woburn City Athletic Club and most recently he became a frequent flea market shopper, always looking for treasures to surprise others with.

Jack is survived by the Love of his Life and wife of 63 years, Judy (Josephson) Porter of Windham, NH; his four girls, Sandy Carslaw & her partner Greg Lynch, Linda Adams & her husband Paul, Kris Howard & her husband Dwayne, and Kim Walker & her husband Chris; his sister Sheila Selfridge & her husband Bill; grandchildren, John Gagnon & his wife Stephanie, Porter Carelli, Kelsey Walker, Kyle Walker, and Megan Adams; as well as many extended family members, nieces, and nephews.
