Joaquim António Couto Pimenta passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 1, 2025. He is survived by his wife, Amelia D. Pimenta, his eldest son, Victor M. Pimenta and his wife, Anneliese E. Pimenta and their children/stepchildren – Kendra Pimenta and her fiancé Tucker Dunbar and their daughter, Aila Dunbar, and Nathan Pimenta and girlfriend Kayla Chase and their children, Rose Pimenta and Connor Pimenta; he is also survived by son Steven Pimenta and his wife Stephanie Pimenta and Steven's daughter Isabella Pimenta.

Joaquim was born in Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portugal on September 12, 1937. He grew up on a farm, learning how to use the earth and care for animals that would provide milk and sustenance. He graduated high school and then entered the Portuguese Marines. While serving, he met his wife, Amelia, and they were married on February 24, 1963 in Faial, Azores. Amelia and Joaquim had their first son on December 25, 1963. They continued to live in Portugal, moving around to and from different marine bases. In search for a new and better life, they came to the United States in 1973, and settled in Somerville, Massachusetts. On August 4, 1977, their second son was born. Joaquim and Amelia continued to speak Portuguese at home with their children, while the boys went to public schools to learn English. On September 4, 1998, both Joaquim and Amelia became U.S. Citizens.

Joaquim worked at Koch Industries in Cambridge/Wilmington, MA where he helped manufacture filters. Unfortunately, during that time, he and his co-workers worked unprotected with asbestos. This caused significant respiratory and neurological issues for Joaquim later in life. However, his time at Koch Industries was greatly enjoyed and he was employed there for 30 years before his retirement in 2002. For extra work, he would accompany his wife in the evening to various cleaning jobs. This allowed them to have the necessary finances for raising their family.

Over the years, Joaquim's favorite pastimes have included working outdoors in the garden, doing small repairs on the family vehicle, fixing small electronics in the garage, going to and participating in the Portuguese Festivals, being treasurer and cook at the Portuguese club in Somerville, watching Portuguese soccer on TV, and of course, spending time with family and friends over traditional meals prepared regularly by Amelia. He always had a positive attitude and believed that life struggles were things you simply push through and get through together. Even in the end, when he could no longer walk and had to deal with pain on a daily basis, he still enjoyed family gatherings and seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Joaquim will be missed immensely by his family and friends. His smile, sense of humor, and positivity will always be remembered. He was a man that can never be forgotten, and he will forever be in our hearts.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 6th from 2 to 5pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A Funeral Mass will take place on Monday morning, at 10am, at St. Jude's Parish, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.

Pimenta e sua esposa, Anneliee E. Pimenta e seus filhos/enteados - Kendra Pimenta e seu noivo Tucker Dunbar e seus filha Aila Dunbar, e Nathan Pimenta e a namorada Kayla Chase e seus filhos, Rose Pimenta e Connor Pimenta; ele também deixa o filho Steven Pimenta e sua esposa Stephanie Pimenta e a filha de Steven, Isabella Pimenta.

Joaquim nasceu em Reguengos de Monsaraz, Portugal em 12 de setembro de 1937. Ele cresceu em uma fazenda, aprendendo a usar a Terra e cuidar de animais que forneceriam leite e comida. Ele se formou no ensino médio e depois entrou nos fuzileiros navais portugueses. Enquanto servia nos fuzileiros navais, ele conheceu sua esposa, Amelia, e eles se casaram em 24 de fevereiro de 1963 em Faial, Açores. Amelia e Joaquim tiveram seu primeiro filho em 25 de dezembro de 1963. Eles continuaram morando em Portugal, movendo -se de e para diferentes bases marinhas. Em busca de uma vida nova e melhor, eles chegaram aos Estados Unidos em 1973 e se estabeleceram em Somerville, Massachusetts. Em 4 de agosto de 1977, seus segundo filho nasceu. Joaquim e Amelia continuaram a falar português em casa com seus filhos, enquanto os meninos foram a escolas públicas para aprender inglês. Em 4 de setembro de 1998, Joaquim e Amelia se tornaram cidadãos dos EUA.

Joaquim trabalhou na Koch Industries em Cambridge/Wilmington, MA, onde ajudou a fabricar filtros. Infelizmente, durante esse período, ele e seus colegas de trabalho trabalharam desprotegidos com amianto. Isso causou questões respiratórias e neurológicas significativas para Joaquim mais tarde na vida. No entanto, ele gostou muito seu tempo na Koch Industries e foi empregado lá por 30 anos antes de sua aposentadoria em 2002. Para um trabalho extra, ele acompanhava sua esposa à noite a vários trabalhos de limpeza. Isso lhes permitiu ter as finanças necessárias para criar sua família.

Ao longo dos anos, os passatempos favoritos de Joaquim incluíram trabalhar ao ar livre no jardim, fazendo pequenos reparos no veículo da família, consertando pequenos eletrônicos na garagem, indo e participando dos festivais portugueses, sendo tesoureiro e cozinhe no clube português em Somerville, assistindo o futebol português na TV e, é claro, passando o tempo com a família e amigos sobre as refeições tradicionais preparadas regularmente pela Amelia. Ele sempre teve uma atitude positiva e acreditava que as lutas da vida eram coisas que você simplesmente avança e passa juntos. Mesmo no final, quando ele não podia mais andar e teve que lidar com a dor diariamente, ele ainda gostava de reuniões de família e vendo seus netos e bisnetos.

Joaquim fará falta imensamente por sua família e amigos. Ele sorriso, senso de humor e positividade sempre serão lembrados. Ele era um homem que nunca pode ser esquecido e estará para sempre em nossos corações.

O horário de atendimento será no domingo, 6 de abril, das 14h às 17h, na Funerária Carrier Family, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. Uma missa fúnebre será realizada na manhã de segunda-feira, às 10h, na paróquia de St. Jude, 435 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, NH 03053.
