Joanne E. Slater, 91, resident of Salem, NH for over 65 years, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on July 22, 1933, to the late Martin and Alice (Johnson) Clark, in Lawrence, MA. She continued to be raised and educated in Lawrence, graduating with the Lawrence High School Class of 1951.
Joanne married the love of her life James H. Slater in July of 1954, whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with. For most of her life Joanne was a homemaker, raising her children. She did however work for the Internal Revenue Service for 18 years, until her retirement.
In her free time, Joanne enjoyed walking and reading books. She read over 1000 novels during her lifetime. She also enjoyed making her delicious fudge for all of her friends and family. Joanne made over 85 pounds of fudge in 2024, a large feat for just one person.
Joanne will be remembered as a beautiful woman with a sharp wit, great sense of humor, and a heart of gold.
The Slater Family would like to extend their gratitude to Amedisys Hospice, for their assistance with Joanne's care at home.
Joanne is survived by her son: James M. Slater, and his wife Christine, of Deerfield, NH; her sister: Patricia Kudzma, of Nashua, NH; several nieces and nephews, as well and her extended family: Thomas Johnson, of Litchfield, NH, and Timothy Johnson, of Salem, NH, both of whom were like adopted grandsons to her, as well as the entire Johnson Family. Joanne's family would also include the Byron family, who shared many wonderful years of friendship and love.
In addition to her husband and parents, Joanne is predeceased by her daughter: Karen Lee Slater; and her sister: Maureen Imielkowski.
