Obituary

Jeffrey Wayne Gartside, 67, of Pelham, NH passed away peacefully at home on June 8, 2024.

Jeff was born in Lawrence, MA and was a resident of Salem NH until moving to Pelham in 1997. He was the son of the late George and Virginia "Ginny" (Knight) Gartside. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Wayne Gartside and a cousin, Mark Knight. Jeff was educated in Salem NH schools, graduating from Salem High School in 1974.

Jeff was married to the love of his life Mary Ann (Mason) for just shy of 45 years. Jeff and Mary Ann met shortly after high school; he was working for Hannensteins in the Salem Depot and Mary Ann would pick up weekend shifts at Trak Auto delivering parts to local garages, including Hannensteins. She and Jeff would go on to marry at the Alvirne Chapel in Hudson, NH on June 22, 1979.

Founded in 1985, Jeff was the proud owner & operator of JJM on Rt 28 in Salem. As the business grew, they relocated in 1992 to the current location at 85 Lowell Rd, in Salem. Mary Ann ran the front office for many years, and they were joined by their son Jeffrey in 2001. "The shop", named for Jeff, Jeff & Mary Ann remains a family owned and operated business. Most recently, Jeff was employed by Lightening Landscape in Pelham, NH while the shop is owned & operated by his son.

His greatest gift, biggest fan and best friend was his son, Jeffrey R. Gartside of Manchester NH. In 2007 and again in 2010, he became a grandfather, and this brought a new generation of Gartside boys that Papa taught to fish, fix their own bicycles, and most importantly- to always show those around you how much you love them. Every interaction with Papa, short or long, ended with a hug and an I Love You. Papa and his grandsons spent many evenings playing basketball, washing cars in the driveway and watching movies together. Together they frequently explored Lake Massabesic, and Papas favorite- Big Island Pond.

Some of Jeff's most treasured past times included trips to Disney World and motorcycle rides with Mary Ann ("my bride" as he affectionately called her), fishing from his boat and the shore, spending time with his family, and fixing anything and everything. He was an extremely talented mechanic and custom fabricator.

Jeff is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Mason), son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Carly, and grandsons Dylan and Tyler Gartside, as well as his nieces Lisa Gartside, Karin (Gartside) Chongrus (John) and Jennifer (Gartside) Boynton (Chris). He leaves behind many lifelong friends and loved ones.

Jeff's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at Southern NH Medical Center, 4- West and particularly to Dr. Gautami Rao. Your dedication to patients and their families is immeasurable and we are forever grateful for the care, support and grace you showed us all. His finals days were spent at home, and we're also very grateful for the NH Home Health & Hospice Care team.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Jeff's honor to the American Cancer Society. Visiting hours to celebrate Jeff's life will be held on Wednesday June 19th, 2024, from 4 to 7pm, at the Carrier Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Route 111, Windham, NH.
