Obituary

Janet T. Childs, 88, of Londonderry, NH, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Elliot Hospital and with her beloved family at her side. She was born on April 11, 1938, in Lawrence, MA, to the late John and Theresa (Turcotte) Newcomb.

Janet graduated from Sacred Heart High School, in Lawrence, Mass. She met the love of her life, E. Justin Childs, (Gus) when they both worked at the Lawrence Experiment Station. They were married on August 16, 1958, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary one year prior to his death and the death of her mother in 2009.

Janet was very active in the Mass. Mothers of Twins Organization and in her parish, Mary Queen of Peace Church, Salem, NH. She served on the Pastoral Council, Ladies Guild, Home Faith Sharing Group, & Lead Consoler for funerals. As a Eucharistic Minister, she was able to bring Holy Communion to the home-bound.

When her children were older, she became employed by local dentists which spanned over 23 years, retiring to care for her mother who was in declining health as well as caring for her husband, Justin.

She leaves behind her children, Mark Childs (Laurie), Christopher Childs (Deborah), Elizabeth Childs (Mary Chinetti), Eric Childs (Dori), and Jennifer Childs-Kirsch. She was beloved Nana to her 11 grandchildren, Andrew Childs, Evan Childs and Catherine (Andrew) Bolton, Katherine (Alfred) Putney, Daniel Childs, Joshua Kirsch, Emily Kirsch, Jacob Childs, Justin Childs, Alex and Mathew Efstratiou.

She was Nana-Jan to her great-grand-children, Isaac, lan and Ivan Putney.

Janet is also survived by her siblings, Sr. Jane Newcomb, s.u.s.c, Lawence, Ma., Allan Newcomb (Faye) of Oregon, Patricia Houston, Lawrence, Ma; in addition to many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Edward & Theresa (Turcotte) Newcomb; brothers Richard "Dick" Newcomb & Fay, John "Jack" Newcomb & Donna, Dennis Newcomb and Michael Newcomb.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 14th, from 9am to 11:30am, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A Funeral Mass will begin at 12pm, at St. Joseph Church, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA.
