Jane E. McCarthy, 78, of Hampstead, NH, formerly of Wakefield, MA, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Jane was born on May 13, 1947, to the late Joseph P. and Anne T. (Roach) Flanagan in Winchester, MA, and grew up in Wakefield. Her early career included administrative roles at Raytheon and John Hancock. During that time, she lived in Hamilton, MA, and welcomed the first of her three children.

In 1978, Jane moved to Beverly, MA, where she later met the love of her life, had two more children, and built a beautiful and colorful life with her family. She returned to the workforce, committing more than 35 years to (Jordan Marsh) Macy's in a retail role she loved and thrived in—continuously earning awards and exceeding annual goals. In 2006, following the passing of her mother, Jane returned to the Wakefield home where she had grown up, residing there for eighteen years before ultimately moving to Hampstead, NH, in 2024.

Jane had the gift of gab and was known to strike up a conversation with anyone who crossed her path. She will always be remembered for her sharp memory—she never forgot a face or a story and cherished the finer details in life. Jane was an avid reader, loved to dance, spend time at the beach, and take trips to the theatre—especially to the North Shore Music Theatre. She was also a skilled seamstress, finding great joy in making her young children's clothing and costumes.

Above all, she cherished her family and friends and was immensely proud of her grandchildren and their accomplishments. Jane was a force—rarely mincing words and never missing an opportunity to connect with those she loved. Her sudden passing has left an unfillable void. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jane is survived by her loving husband of nearly 43 years, Scott T. McCarthy; her children, Tracy Phaup and her husband Jamie of Derry, NH; Lieutenant Sean McCarthy, WFD  of Beverly, MA; and Taryn Newman and her husband Josh of Bradford, MA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Kayla, Kaylee, Alexa, Shaelyn, and Rylee, as well as her six feisty granddogs.

Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, from 4–7 PM, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A funeral service will begin at 7 PM in the funeral home.
