James E
Mchugh Sr.
Aug 10, 1941 — Apr 11, 2024
Salem
James E. McHugh of North Salem, NH passed away peacefully on April 11 after a long illness. Jim was the beloved husband of Catherine McHugh with whom he shared a joyful and fun-packed life. Jim was a super Dad whose children, Jim Jr. and Joy McHugh Butler, adored him; Jim was a most patient, loving and kind Dad.
Jim was born in Great Barrington, MA on August 10, 1941. Jim flourished as the son of Edward and Mary McHugh in the small farming hamlet of Ancram, NY. An Army veteran and graduate of SUNY in Albany, NY, Jim prospered as an executive in the insurance business, retiring in 2007 from the Brown and Brown Insurance Agency. Jim loved the business and believed in it wholeheartedly.
In addition to his love and pride for his family and dedication to his career, Jim was an avid sports enthusiast. He loved the Red Sox and the Patriots passionately.
While on his tour of duty in Germany, Jim played on an army baseball team, which was one of his finest memories. For many, many years, Jim and Cathy skied often and fast with Jim and Joy. A favorite memory was taking Joy at the age of six down Outer Limits at Killington, VT. His son, Jim, carries on his legacy of time spent on the mountains around Lake Tahoe. Always packed with energy, Jim played basketball, softball, and lots and lots of golf. Jim also took great delight in mowing his beautiful lawn.
Jim will be dearly missed by his wife, Cathy, son Jim and his wife Genevieve, by Joy and her husband Rob Butler, by grandchildren Catherine and Colin, by his sister Linda Isaac of Syracuse, and by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
Donation was a passion of Jim's, with the Jimmy Fund being the closest to his heart. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorial donations be made to the Jimmy Fund in his honor,10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-722
