Obituary

Harold Russell Viveiros, 79, of Chester, NH, passed away on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at the Pheasantwood Nursing Home in Peterborough, NH. He was born on November 30, 1945, in Fall River, MA, to the late Solomon and Evangeline (Machado) Viveiros.

"Russell" was a proud veteran of the United States Marines, who bravely served his country during the Vietnam War. His service saw him rise to the rank of sergeant, and he served a vital role in the Tet Offensive, commonly referred to as the "game changer" of the Vietnam War.

In the years following his return from his service, he also adopted a number of horses. Russell's horses brought him tremendous comfort during this time of transition, so much so that adopting, training, and caring for them became both a joy and lifelong passion of his.

Russell received his master's degree and began his career as a therapist. By 1974 he was working at the Boston State Hospital in Dorchester, MA, and with MA Rehab. It was here that he met his future wife, Diane Klein, who was working as an executive assistant for the firm.

In his free time, he enjoyed ballroom dancing and playing both pool and cards. He was an outdoorsman, who kept himself busy with his yardwork and gardening, or by taking road trips out on his motorcycle. An animal lover at heart, his many pets brought him tremendous joy throughout his lifetime, whether that be the horses that he trained, Utah the dog, or Pepper the African Grey Parrot.

Russell leaves behind his son, Joshua Viveiros; his former wife, Diane Klein; and his siblings, Jimmy, Tommy, and Rita; in addition to many friends, extended family, and beloved patients throughout the years.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Larry and Patrick.
