Gilbert John
Hulme
Aug 23, 1939 — Jan 9, 2026
Windham
Gilbert John Hulme, 86, of Windham, NH, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the High Pointe House in Haverhill, MA. He was born on August 23, 1939, in Lawrence, MA, to the late Gilbert and Harriet (Boardman) Hulme.
Having been exceptionally gifted and driven from an early age, Gil completed high school early and pursued a degree in engineering from Lowell Technical Institute. He then used his education to begin his long and successful career as a laser physicist with General Electric.
Gil met the love of his life, Marlene, while still in school, and the two were married in 1962. Together, they started their family before moving to New York for Gil's work. From the very beginning, Gil was a present father, never missing a single sporting event, parent-teacher conference, or PTO meeting.
Gil was also very civic-minded and was a member of the Young Democrats for a great many years. He was a member of the Lion's Club, both in New York and later in New Hampshire, and involved himself in the NH court system through his work with CASA.
Perhaps his most rewarding role was that as a father and "Grampie." Gil adored his family and was tremendously proud of his 5 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a humble man who was easy to be around, having enjoyed hours of simply "sitting around and chatting." Gil's kindness and charity will continue to be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his beloved wife of 63 years, Marlene (Kinne) Hulme, Gilbert is survived by his children, Danielle and her husband Stephen King, John and his wife Kathy Hulme; grandchildren, Jacob Hulme, Lucas Hulme, Tucker Johnson, Maxwell Johnson, Katelyn Murphy; step-grandchildren, Maggie, Mitch and Abbie King; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Hulme, Harper Hulme, Scarlett Hulme, Grayson Hulme.
In honoring Gil's love of giving back to others, the family has asked memorial donations be made in lieu of flowers to The Jimmy Fund or a charity of choice.
