Obituary

Gerard “Gerry” Verschuuren, of Atkinson, NH, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, with his family by his side. He was born in the Netherlands on May 29, 1946.

Gerry is survived by his stepdaughters: Elizabeth “Liz” Frangiosa, and her husband Mark, of Barnstable, MA, and Tamson “Tammy” Kelley, and her husband John, of Gardner, MA; his grandchildren: Melinda, Wayne, Thomas, and his wife Bethany, and Chelsea, and her husband Mac; and his great-grandchildren: Isabella, Adam, Colin, Madison, Noah, and Adeline.

In addition to his parents, Gerry is predeceased by his wife Trudy Verschuuren and his stepdaughter Allyson. Gerry was an only child.

Gerry lived a wonderful life. A devoted stepfather and husband, he loved his wife, family, and his church. He also enjoyed his work as a Scientist, Professor, Consultant and Author.

As a professor, Gerry taught many subjects including biology, genetics, statistics, philosophy, logic, and programming at Leiden University, Utrecht University, the Dutch Open University, Merrimack College, and Boston College.

As a consultant, Gerry assisted scientists and engineers in using computers for data and statistical analysis. He became a Microsoft Certified Professional and was an official adviser on Excel's latest statistical functions. He also served as an advisor to the Foundation Scientific Europe, which published research and technology in 20 European countries, entitled Scientific Europe. From 1985 until 1994, he was the editor-in-chief of the Dutch magazine Natuurwetenschap en Techniek and publisher of the Dutch version of the Scientific American Library.

As an author, he wrote biology textbooks for high-schools and colleges. As a practicing Catholic, Gerry was interested in the relationship between science and religion. It was his conviction that religion and science cannot be in conflict with each other. From this perspective, he wrote and published over eighteen (18) books and produced YouTube Videos.

Gerry has been a member of the Atkinson community for over 20 years and a communicant of St. Matthew’s for over 5 years.

Friends and family are invited to Calling Hours on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 9:30-10:30 AM, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated following calling hours at St. Matthew’s Parish, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery, Lexington, MA.
