Geraldine Ann
Putney
Jan 31, 1932 — Jul 16, 2023
Fremont
Geraldine Ann Gabriel entered the world on January 31, 1932, in Lawrence, MA, as the first child of Adele (Ganem) Gabriel and Mansour Gabriel. She was eventually joined by her younger sisters and lifelong friends Claudette Woodward (deceased, of Wyandotte, Michigan) and Gayle Potts of Salem, NH.
Geraldine grew up in the Lawrence and Methuen areas (Prospect St., Jackson St., Stearns Ave.), graduating from Saint Mary High School in 1949. She worked at the Waldorf in Lawrence and enjoyed visiting Salisbury Beach with her family.
After high school, she attended secretarial school in Boston and worked for an insurance company prior to working as an executive secretary at Raytheon Company in Andover, MA.
It was at Raytheon that she met her future husband, C. Charles Putney. They were married on May 16, 1971, and shared a life together for 49 years until his death in Dec. 2020. They raised their two children, Maura Wentworth (Hampstead, NH) and Chuck Putney (Paxton, MA), in Salem, NH.
While raising her children, Geraldine sold Avon Cosmetics for many years, and became a fixture as a waitress at the Weathervane Restaurant in Salem, NH.
Geraldine loved a good bargain and enjoyed going to yard sales, visiting antique stores, and shopping for groceries (with coupons, of course).
She enjoyed playing cards, going to the beach, and definitely had a sweet tooth for chocolate, caramel turtles, fried dough, Hershey nuggets, and chocolate ice cream (usually with nuts). She loved pistachios and walnuts and a refreshing glass of lemonade.
Geraldine was a beloved "Sitto" to her five grandchildren - Emily and Ben Wentworth of Hampstead; Charlotte, Luke, and Violet Putney of Paxton - sharing stories, treats, laughs, and Lebanese family recipes. She was a loving mother-in-law to Maura's husband Steve and Chuck's wife Karen.
She was a devoted and loving aunt to her nieces, Carol Henegar and Janine Parisi, and her nephews, Mark Curtis, Mike Woodward, Mark Woodward (deceased), John Woodward, and Brian Woodward.
In retirement, Charlie and Gerry enjoyed time with their grandchildren and traveled to Alaska, Bermuda, Central America, Hawaii, and Paris.
Geraldine was known throughout her life for her kindness and patience. She will be dearly missed by her children and grandchildren, who will cherish her memory and the many fond times they shared with her.
