Gerald "Bud"
Ludger Valcourt, Jr.
Mar 1, 1940 — Mar 1, 2026
Salem
Gerald "Bud" Ludger Valcourt, Jr., 86, passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 1, 2026.
Born on March 1, 1940, to Dorothy (Ripley) and Gerald Valcourt, Bud was raised in Methuen, Massachusetts where he attended local schools. Following graduation, he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country with honor and dedication.
After completing his military service, Bud earned his bachelor's degree, laying the foundation for a distinguished career as an electrical engineer with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lincoln Laboratory. For four decades, he stood at the forefront of scientific and technological advancement before his retirement.
Bud was an active member in many social groups and was well known and loved across many communities. He was a proud member of the Masons, Eastern Star, Shriners and American Legion Post 51, but his most loved hobby was his HAM radio. Bud, call sign NY1Z, enjoyed connecting with others all over and spending time with those who shared the same love for this.
Known for his warm personality and quick wit, Bud was truly a social butterfly. He was the guy you could sit next to at the bar for dinner one night and end up with a life-long friend. He never missed an opportunity to share a classic "Dad joke," often delivered with a twinkle in his eye and a grin that made it impossible not to laugh. Bud treasured time spent at his beach house in Salisbury, where he could be found relaxing with a gin and tonic in hand, surrounded by family and close friends.
Above all, Bud was a devoted father, cherished grandfather, "Papa", loving brother, and proud uncle. His steady presence, generous spirit, and playful humor are irreplaceable and will be profoundly missed. Bud's legacy lives on in the many lives he touched by his kindness, laughter, and unwavering love.
Bud is survived by his daughters, Leslie Susan (Valcourt) Brazil and Julieanne Patricia (Valcourt) Burd and her husband Thomas; his grandchildren, Jordan, Mackenzie, Samantha, Alexis, Jacob, Jaime, Jill, Jessica, and Joelle; many great-grandchildren, many
great-nieces and nephews; his sister, Janet (Valcourt) Costa and husband Robert; nieces, Kristen Costa and Lauren Costa.
In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by his beloved wife, Diane (Wilkison).
Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 9th, 2026, from 10am to 12pm, with services beginning at 12pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. Burial will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The HAM Radio Club and Masons.
