George Dinsmore Jr. was the son of George G. Dinsmore Sr. and Edith (Johnson) Dinsmore and was born in Windham on November 5, 1931 and passed away on August 13, 2024 at 92 years of age.
He grew up at his family's home, the stone house, on Cobbett's Pond. George's family has lived in Windham since 1723. He would meet Marion Mackenzie on Cobbett's Pond, falling in love with and marrying on September 21, 1953.
Marion was the daughter of Lorimer A. and Della Mackenzie. They were married for 73 years and were devoted to each other until the end.
George was a Korean War veteran.
George was a local businessman who started with little and through hard work and determination operated several successful businesses. He was in the construction business for over 50 years, building custom single family homes and commercial buildings in Windham and Salem and the surrounding area. His business was also involved in developing many neighborhoods such as Bramley Hill in Windham and Samoset Drive in Salem.
He owned and operated Dunkin Beach for several summers in the 1970's with his old friend George Arm-strong. He also opened Coldwell Banker Dinsmore Associates real estate with his son Brad in 1978 and also operated the Windham Exxon with his son Gardner.
For a number of years George and his wife Marion operated a charter sailboat company in the British Virgin Islands. The BVI was a special place for them which they shared with their family and friends during frequent visits.
George was a Windham Selectman from 1969-1974 and was on the Planning Board for many years.
George and Marion were members of the Windham Historic Committee which was instrumental in the restoration of Searles School and Chapel He volunteered many hours of his time in the actual restoration work.
George is survived by his wife Marion L. (Mackenzie) Dinsmore; Her sons and their wives, Brad and Kristie Dinsmore of Windham NH., Gardner and Denise Dinsmore of Placida, Florida; Grandchildren Mathew Dinsmore of Astoria, New York, Isaac Dinsmore of Windham NH, and Alisha (Dinsmore) Tobin and her husband Lee of St. Petersburg FL. And great grandchild Luca Tobin.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Friday, August 16, 2024 from 2-4 PM, followed by a funeral service at 4 PM at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd, Windham, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Centerpointe Community Church, 101 School St, Salem, NH.
