George B. Atkins passed away peacefully in Salem, New Hampshire on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.  He was 83. George was born and raised in Swampscott, MA. He graduated from Swampscott High School in 1958 and served in the Massachusetts National Guard. He went on to attend Northeastern University, where he received a BA in Business Administration in 1964.

George eventually joined the Essex County Sherriff's Department, where he worked for 27 years.  He retired in 2003 as the Superintendent of the department's Correctional Alternatives Center in Lawrence, MA.

After retirement he split his time between Lehigh Acers, FL and Sandwich, MA, then moved to Salem to be closer to family in 2020.

George is the son of Alice (Bennett) Atkins and George B. Atkins Sr. of Swampscott. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Sandra (Patterson) Atkins, and by his children Douglas Atkins, along his wife Elise and their children Rudy, Bennett and Jack of Salem, NH; and Allison Hubert along with her husband Michael Hubert and his daughter Myka Hubert of Fairbanks, AK.

The family will hold private services at a later date.
