Eugene P. (Gene) Donovan, 86, of Hampstead, NH, passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 28, 1935, to the late Patrick and Norma (Colucci) Donovan, in Staten Island, NY. Gene graduated from high school, and then went on to join the Army, serving in the Korean War. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he studied Chemical Engineering at Brooklyn College.

Gene's long career in the semiconductor industry included management roles with Sprague Electric, Analog Devices, and lastly, with Unitrode as Director of Operations. During his tenure at Sprague, he was a member of the team that developed the silicon disk deposited into the moon's surface by Apollo 11. The silicon disk contained messages from 73 different countries.

Gene loved to celebrate with family and friends. He enjoyed listening to music, ballroom dancing, playing bridge and watching his children's sporting events. He also loved to cook and was known for his Christmas morning apple pancakes.

Gene is survived by his loving wife, of 63 years, Carolyn (Esposito) Donovan; their children: Susan M. Green, and her husband Brian, of Merrimack, NH; Mary Beth Donovan, of Plaistow, NH; Patrick E. Donovan, and his wife Monique, of Windham, NH; Stephen L. Donovan, and his wife Lexi, of Long Beach, CA; and Timothy J. Donovan, and his wife Kristin, of Londonderry, NH; his grandchildren: Donovan Olson, Carolyn Olson, Robert Olson, Jack Donovan, Danielle Donovan, Ryan Donovan, Connor Donovan, Ellie Donovan, Nate Donovan, Brooke Donovan, Eugene (EJ) Donovan, and Julia Donovan; his sister: Noreen Fleming, of Sarasota, FL; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene is predeceased by his siblings: Thomas Donovan, Marilyn Donovan, and Terry Donovan.

Calling hours for Gene will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, 4:00 – 7:00 pm at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 10 AM, at St. Joseph's Parish, 33 Main Street, Salem, NH 03079.
