Erna Leavitt, 97, of Salem, NH, formerly of Cambridge, MA, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 6, 2026, at her home.

She was born on March 10, 1929, and raised in Innsbruck, Austria. Erna attended local schools, and following high school graduation, she relocated to Salzburg where she worked as a dental assistant and met and married Gerald Leavitt.

Erna moved to the United States with her husband, and the couple raised their family in Cambridge, Massachusetts. She spent many years working as a healthcare aide for the

Walter E. Fernald School, until her retirement.

In her spare time, Erna loved to keep busy with knitting, sewing, and gardening. She truly loved being around her family.

Erna is survived by her children, Michael Leavitt and his partner Kirk, Stephen Leavitt and his husband Richard, Cissy Ghilardi, and Christine Wallace and her husband Kevin; her ten grandchildren as well as ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Erna was predeceased by her husband, Gerald Charles Leavitt; and her sons, Gerry and Jimmy Leavitt.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
