Edward "Ed" A. DeSchuytner, 81, of Windham, NH, passed away on Thursday evening, October 30, 2025.

Ed was born on September 3, 1944, to Josephine (Kiewlicz) and Alphonso DeSchuytner. He was raised in Chelsea, MA, and he graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End of Boston in 1962. Ed went on to earn his bachelor's degree at Northeastern University in 1967 and his PhD in Cell Biology from Boston College 1972 conducting early work on tumor isoenzymes of alkaline phosphatase. It was in graduate school that he met the love of his life, Carolyn Ann.

He had a deep passion for science education. In his 53 years as a professor and dean at Northern Essex Community College, he taught 8,533 students. Many students who went on to become nurses and health professionals took Ed's Anatomy and Physiology and Microbiology classes.

When he was younger, Ed was a member of the Malden Pigeon racing club, once earning 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place in a 4,000-bird concourse. He loved to try out new recipes and cook for those around him. Most of all, Ed loved spending time with his beloved family.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years Carolyn Ann; his dog Molly; his son Brian and wife Maria and stepchildren Viola and Ruby of Wellesley, MA; his son Matt and wife Summer of Canterbury, NH; his nieces and nephews Greg Walczak, Paula Shepperd and her husband Andy, Bob Mouk and his wife Vickie, and Laura Smith; his great-nephews, Jared Smith, Jordan Smith, and Robbie Mouk; and his sister-in-law Jean Marie McGraw and her husband Chuck Lindsay.

In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Marion "Skippy" Walczak.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 8th at 11 am, at St. Matthew's Parish, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087.
