Douglas Alan Gimber, born in Annapolis, Maryland, passed away on February 18, 2024 at the age of 85.

He lived a life guided by his love of God, integrity and commitment, and love of family.

Doug graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in architecture. He served as an officer in the US Navy before beginning his career as an architect. He was a founding member of Brown Gimber Rodriguez and Park Architecture firm. He later found a second career teaching math to at-risk students; a job he found particularly rewarding.

He was married to Norma (Cazares), his loving and faithful wife for 58 years. His pride and joy were his three children, all graduates of the University of Notre Dame. He was an active member of the University of Notre Dame San Diego Alumni Club, where he served as president of the club and was awarded Man of the Year 1976.

Doug loved swimming, camping and visiting national parks. After retiring, Doug and Norma enjoyed many years of cruising in Europe, Eastern Mediterranean and the Nile River.

Doug is survived by his wife Norma, daughter Elizabeth Chase, MD (Bryan Chase, Esq) of Methuen, MA, and sons Paul (Christine Lawley) of Milton, MA and Kevin (K.C. Albiston, DPT) of Oceanside, CA, seven grandchildren, his brother Capt. Harry Gimber and sister-in-law Maxine of Coronado, CA and sister Sr. Frances Gimber, RSCJ, of Atherton, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Capt. Harry MS and Frances Gimber.

The Lord sent His angels to escort Doug to Paradise. Our profound sadness is eased by our firm belief that Doug is now in total fulfillment, everlasting joy and happiness in the light and presence of the Lord.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 23rd, at 10am, at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Parish, 4080 Hawk Street, San Diego, CA 92103.
