Doris Isabelle Daniels (Allen) passed away peacefully on January 22, 2023 at the Hannah Dustin nursing home in Haverhill, MA.  Do, as she liked to be called, was born on April 29, 1927 in Burtts Corner, New Brunswick, Canada to Kathleen and Fred Allen.  Fred spent his entire career as a station master with the Canadian Pacific Railway, and during the early years of her childhood Do lived in various towns in western New Brunswick where Fred was assigned at the time.  The family, which included her older brother Eric, eventually settled in St. Stephen, New Brunswick where Do attended grade school and graduated from high school.

Do earned her nursing degree at Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia where she starred on the women's basketball team.  She then moved to Montreal where she worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital and completed advanced training in obstetrics.  From there she relocated to New York City to work as a nurse in the OB-GYN department at Mount Sinai Hospital and after several years took an OB-GYN nursing supervisory position at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, NY.  It was there that she met John H. Daniels Jr., who was an Assistant Hospital Administrator.  They were married in 1957 and settled for a time in Port Washington, NY where they were blessed with two sons, Bruce Scot and John Eric (Rick).  In 1965 the family moved to Little Silver, New Jersey, after John H. was named Hospital Administrator at Riverview Hospital in Red Bank.

Sadly, Do enjoyed only ten years of marriage, as John H. passed away way too soon in 1968.  From that day forward, Do's sole focus was raising her two boys in the best way she knew how.

Do was an avid tennis player and garden club member and loved spending summer days at the beach in Sea Bright.  Needlepoint was another passion of hers and many nights she could be heard muttering under her breath when a flower she had stitched did not come out the way she wanted.  Each summer she would make the long trek from Little Silver to St. Stephen with her two boys and dog Booby in tow to spend a month or so with her father Fred.  Do was proud of her Canadian heritage and would point out the Canadian Maple Leaf or Union Jack flags whenever she saw one.  She was also very fond of the English Royal Family and would read anything that was published about the Royals, earning her the nickname "The Queen."  Do relocated to Exeter, NH in 2001 to be closer to her two boys and their families.

In addition to her husband John, Do was predeceased by her parents, brother Eric and his wife Polly.  She is survived by her son Bruce, his wife Beth and their three sons John (and his wife Allie), Jeff (and his wife Hannah) and Mark; her son Rick, his wife Joyce and their two sons Matthew (and his wife Kayla) and Christopher; and her nephew Brian Allen and his wife Nancy of Barrie, Ontario.

Mom…Grammy Do…and friend to all – thank you for your unconditional love, and may you rest in peace.  Your memories will remain with us all forever - until we meet again.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 27 from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM at the Carrier Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH.  Interment will be private at the Old Tennent Cemetery in Manalapan, New Jersey.
