Darrell Elaine
Schmitt
Apr 18, 1948 — Mar 1, 2025
Derry
Darrell Elaine (Locke) Schmitt, 76, of Derry, NH, passed away peacefully, on Saturday morning, March 1, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on April 18, 1948, to Marie J. (Mills) and Norman S. Locke. Darrell was raised in Sudbury, Massachusetts until 1963, when her family relocated to New Hampshire.
In 1969, Darrell married the love of her life, James "Jim" Schmitt and the couple made their home in New York.
They were blessed on December 19, 1973, with their only child, Sandie Marie Schmitt. Sandie eventually blessed them with their only grandchild, Krissie Alexandra Cross, on October 25th, 2000.
She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis at a young age, around 30 years old, and still managed to enjoy every day as it came.
Darrell spent a number of years working as an assembler for Smith Corona, which eventually became Cooper Tools. She was known for her strong work ethic & her contagious, sarcastic personality! She was a Hoot! Seven years ago Darrell moved back to New Hampshire, to be with her family. Who were grateful for every moment with her.
Darrell and her sister Roberta were so close, they were known among family as Thelma and Louise. In recent years, Darrell enjoyed being at home, watching television or playing games on her iPad.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Krissie Cross; her siblings, Linda Larsen and her husband Jack, Roberta Weber, Jeanne Kimball and her husband Russell, and Peter Locke and his wife Michelle; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband Jim, Darrell was predeceased by her daughter, Sandie Cross.
In lieu of flowers donations to the Multiple Sclerosis research fund would be greatly appreciated as she battled that disease for half her life.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
