Daniel F. Downey, 86, of Salem, NH, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Holy Family Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 18, 1936, to the late John and Helen (Lane) Downey, in Somerville, MA.

Daniel's faith was always close to his heart. He was an active parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Salem, serving as a Eucharistic minister, consoler and lector. He was also part of the first team of Kairos Prison Ministry. Daniel was an avid Boston sports fan, rooting for the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtic, and Bruins. Daniel served his country for over twenty years, serving in the Airforce for 13 years and retiring from the Army as a Staff Sergeant after 7 years.

Daniel is survived by his wife of many years: Marie (Cappucci) Downey; their children: Lisa Rand, of Raymond, NH, Michael Downey and his wife Tracy, of Stafford, VA, Derek Downey, of Manchester, NH, and Lynda Macaluso and her husband Michael, of Sandown, NH; his grandchildren: Brianna, Eric, Elena, Natalie, and Lyla; his sister: Mary Downey; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Daniel is predeceased by his siblings: Jack Downey, Nora Flagg, Joe Downey, Joan Downey, Robert Downey, and Dennis Downey.

A funeral mass will be held on Friday, February 24, 2023, at 11 AM, at St. Joseph's Church, 40 Main Street, Salem, NH. Private interment will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH 03033. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
