Obituary

Claire D. Miller, 94, of Salem, NH, passed away on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was born on November 26, 1931, to the late Henry and Mary T. (Cooney) Angell, in Providence, RI.

To say Claire was devoted to her family and career would be an understatement. She attended Bryant College on a full academic scholarship obtaining her Bachelor's degree in Business. She obtained her Master's degree and earned her Certificate of Advanced Studies in Counseling from Fairfield University.  Claire completed this high level of education while working full-time and being a loving mother to four children in Rye, New York.

Claire worked tirelessly, providing counseling to students as the Director of Guidance at St. Helena's Commercial High School in  Bronx, NY for 20 years. Claire's passion for guiding Catholic high school teenagers was legendary.  Above all, Claire was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Claire's devotion to God was of the upmost importance in her life. She was formally a lector at Blessed Sacrament Church, in Stowe, Vermont, but most recently a parishioner of Saint Matthew's Church, in Windham, NH.

Claire is survived by her husband of 70 years: Bernard Miller, of Salem, NH; their children: Karen Brendli, and her husband Philip, of Buzzards Bay, MA, Ann Rice, and her husband David, of Syracuse, NY, Stephen Miller, and his wife Georgeann, of Windham, NH, and Kathleen Grinley, and her husband Joseph, of Salem, NH; her 10 grandchildren; and her 16 great-grandchildren.

Claire is predeceased by her brothers David Angell, and The Most Reverend Kenneth A. Angell, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Burlington, Vt.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 10 AM, at St. Matthew's Church, 2 Searles Road, Windham, NH 03087. Interment will take place in the Spring.
