Changlin Huang, 64, died in a car accident on October 30, 2026. He was born on September 15, 1962, in Shaanxi Province, China, to Wang Cuifeng and Huang Pengyuan. He studied at Zhongnan University in Hunan, where he met his wife, Xingxing Sheng. In 1992 they came to the United States, which remained his home for the rest of his life.
After earning his Ph.D. at Michigan Tech, Changlin began his career as a software engineer. In the 2010s he went into business for himself, running a property management company and a homestay business for Chinese students coming to study in the United States. Having made that same journey himself, he gave many young students a place to start in a new country. He was always generous and never failed to help others.
He was a serious reader of Chinese history and a great admirer of Charlie Munger and Warren Buffett. Whether he was tracing the long arc of a dynasty or analyzing the stock market, he went deep and expected the same of the people he talked with. He had little use for small talk. He wanted long conversations and real debate, and an evening with Changlin was rarely forgettable.
Above all, he was devoted to his family. He was the anchor of his household and took pride in caring for the people who depended on him. He looked after his own parents, now in their nineties, with steady and unfailing devotion.
Becoming a grandfather was one of the great joys of his life. He followed every one of his grandson Jasper's milestones with delight. Family trips to Zhangjiajie last summer and Quebec this August were among the happiest times in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Xingxing Sheng; his son, Bob Huang; his daughter, Wendy Huang; his grandson, Jasper Huang; his parents, Wang Cuifeng and Huang Pengyuan; and three siblings. His family and friends will remember his sharp mind, his spirited debates, and his steadfast love.

________
