Catherine D. Chingros, 82, of Salem, New Hampshire passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston, MA.
Cathy was born on May 21st, 1940, to Helen (Laganas) and John Faneros. She was raised in Dracut, MA and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1958. Cathy earned her bachelor's degree from Boston Conservatory of Music, Cum Laude. She began her career as a music teacher in Dracut and Lowell High Schools. She shared her love of music with her students having taught piano privately for over 65 years, having only stopped due to her hospitalization. She was known for her strict style of teaching but was also known to yield results. Many of her students went on to have their own careers in music; one of which has won a Grammy. Her students meant the world to her and she shared a very special bond with them.
In her spare time, Cathy enjoyed shopping and traveling with family. Her granddaughters were everything to her. She never said no to babysitting and was always there to celebrate every milestone.
She is survived by her former husband: Joseph Chingros; their children: Cassandra Fournier, and her husband Stephen, of Windham, NH, Basil Chingros and his wife Cory, of Salem, NH, and Jason Chingros, of Windham, NH; her grandchildren: Alexis, Alana, and Natalia; her brother: Arthur Faneros, and his wife Christine; and her nephews: John and Jason Faneros.
Friends and family are invited to Calling Hours on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 4-7 PM, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10 AM, at the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church, 25 Father John Sarantos Way, Lowell, MA 01854. Burial will follow at West Lawn Cemetery, Lowell MA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John and Helen Faneros Scholarship Fund, (8 Washington Road Windham, NH).
