Anthony E. "Tony" DiMaio, 93, of Groveland, MA, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Anna Jaques Hospital.
Tony was born on September 19, 1930, to Concetta (Sarni) and Nicholas DiMaio. He was raised in East Boston, MA, attended local schools, including Boston English High School. He went on to attend Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University.
Tony spent twelve years in the 102nd interceptor fighter wing of the Air National Guard. He was activated in the Air Force in 1961 and was stationed in Strasbourg France.
Following his military career, Tony began a remarkably successful career as a Mechanical Engineer. He worked on the Mercury Space Program at MIT in the nineteen sixties and held executive positions with several companies including Marson Corporation, Gesipa Fasteners and Nylock Corporation. Tony was granted twenty-six patents over his distinguished career. Later in life he and his wife Jean owned Quality Market in Barre Vermont for several years. Even in retirement he was unable to stay idle, he operated a successful consulting business and authored numerous articles for industry publications until the time of his passing.
Tony was active in local politics in Georgetown, Ma in the nineteen seventies where he served as the first Chairman of the Board of Health and later served as Water Commissioner.
Tony was a lifetime member of the Elks Club. He enjoyed gardening, cooking Italian food, and was known for his gregarious personality and boundless sense of humor.
Tony and Jean loved to travel throughout Europe and the United States.
Tony is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean (Rogers) DiMaio; his children, Stephen DiMaio and his wife Donna of Georgetown, MA, Adrienne Melling of Newburyport, MA, Tony DiMaio Jr. of Haverhill, MA, Ladonna Maldonado of Haverhill, MA, Dean Peterson and his wife Nancy of Saint Johns, FL, and Trisha Welch and her husband Greg of Georgetown, MA, his grandchildren, Christopher, James, Karmen, Tianna, Michael, Jonathan, Katie, Nicole, Taylor, Patrick, Cameron, Haylie and Kane and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Tony was predeceased by his siblings, sisters Thelma Giardina, Mary Dion and Eva Montana, his brother William DiMaio and sons Nicholas DiMaio and Eric DiMaio.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 16th, at 1pm at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Rd, Windham, NH. A gathering will immediately follow in the funeral home's function hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department 30 East 33rd St. New York, NY 10016.
