On Sunday, December 18, 2022, Andrew J. Nelson passed away peacefully after a grueling two-year battle with lung cancer. He was born in Warwick, Rhode Island, to Roy A. Nelson and Eunice C. (Ricci) Nelson on December 4, 1951. Andrew spent most of his childhood in RI until his family moved to Methuen, MA when he was a teenager. It was here on Butternut Lane where he met the love of his life, Susan A. (Phelan) Nelson, when he was just in high school. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1969 and from Northeastern University in 1974 with a Bachelor of Accounting. He married Susan shortly thereafter on July 6, 1974.

Andrew was a hard-working man who started his own accounting firm in 1994 with partner Andrew Marion. He was a devout Catholic with an enormous heart and an infectious sense of humor. He was well-known in the community for his many years of service in the Exchange Club of Salem, NH and regularly volunteered at the Sonshine Soup Kitchen in Derry, NH, even while battling cancer. He volunteered his time by selling Christmas trees, collecting donations for the food pantry during parades, and playing the accordion during spaghetti suppers at St. Matthew's Parish, accompanied by his family.  As a lover of adventure, he could be found searching for lobsters in the ocean in the summer and skiing or sailing on his ice boat in the winter. He enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, working in his yard and crafting with wood.

Andrew is survived by his wife, Susan; his daughter, Erica Nelson, and her partner, Juan Rosales; his daughter, Heidi (Nelson) Tedrick, and her husband, Rory Tedrick; his brother, Roy Nelson and his wife, Janet; his brother, Stephen Nelson and his wife, Dolly; and his grandchildren, John and Piper Tedrick, to whom he was affectionately known as "Popeye."

A small funeral service for Andrew will be held at 11 am on December 29, 2022 at St. Matthew's Parish in Windham, NH. Details for a celebration of life in early 2023 will be announced soon. In lieu of flowers, Andrew would love donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, St. Matthew's Parish, or the Oncology Department at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, MA.
